Getting Started
- Have a folder full of markdown files, such as from Obsidian? Import them into note.garden!
- You can also tap the “+ New” button to write a note, or type the title of a new note into the search box above and press “Enter” to create it.
- Notes are written in markdown
- You can easily link to another note by writing its title within double square brackets, e.g. Another note. You can even link to notes that don’t exist yet: clicking the link will let you create it. Start typing
[[
and note.garden will search for notes to link to. - Notes are automatically saved as you type.
- Feel free to delete this note (Edit > Delete Note) once it’s no longer useful.
- Notes are private by default. Change “🌰 Private” to “🌸 Public” when viewing a note to make it public. It will be visible on your profile page (click “Your Profile” under “Network” in the menu to view it.) Or choose “🌱 Seedling” to hide a note from your public pages, but still publicly accessible at its URL to share for early feedback.
Tending Your Garden
Use note.garden however you like, of course, but here are some tips other gardeners have found helpful:
- Make notes “evergreen”: take notes on things you want to remember forever or just can’t stop thinking about. Maybe start with a strongly-held opinion.
- Start small: if each note captures just one idea, concept, or opinion, it will be easier to reference, respond to, and recontextualize in other notes.
- Link liberally: the denser your network of notes, the more likely you are to find serendipitous connections.
- Consider strong titles: notes with titles that take a stand, like “Perfection is achieved when there is nothing left to take away”, are more memorable and likely to prompt a response when you revisit them. That said, notes for general concepts like “justice” or “ecology” can be useful too for connecting disparate ideas.
Happy gardening!
