How do your teams celebrate releases or successful features or otherwise receive recognition?

Summary: We should celebrate Activities, Output, and Outcomes… and do so Continuously.
Activity
- One of MAAP’s (my growth framework philosophy) is “specific and actionable feedback”… meaning your shout outs should be based on the activities defined within your MAAP, guiding principles, and values
Output
- Those who stop celebrating when you ship something is doomed to fail. HOWEVER, you MUST still celebrate shipping because doing so with high quality is a herculean feat and is worthy to be celebrated.
Outcomes
- Ideally this is the only thing that should be celebrated… but that is too hardcore, so I’ll say this should be celebrated the hardest, BY FAR.
Continuously
- Regardless of what you are celebrating, it should be in public, it should be about the team, it should be specific (based on an observation), ideally it should be in response to a hypothesis or goal that was set some time before (and folks have been watching it, with the same anticipation you would a sports game).
- One of my favorite actual rewards is team building time. But things like a thoughtful / personalized to the team, person, or goal gift are good options.
- Do not reward with money.
