hyperfixation ~ state of intense focus in people with ADHD (or ADHD + something else)

traits (my experience)

  • stressful
  • not rewarding or satisfying by itself (not ever enough)
    • can lead to “useful” results or improving the skill though
  • physically and/or mentally exhausting
  • feeling of being forced into something by their own brain
  • feeling of being in a cage
  • can be used to avoid doing actually important tasks
  • can be transformed into calm, less intense hobby
  • not present since the very childhood, often only for few years (maybe with pauses)

my hyperfixations

  • coding [current, reoccurring]
  • software [current, reoccurring]
  • art study [not active, transformed into hobby]
  • game modding [not active?]
