Cognitive biases are patterns of irrationality common across individuals—in other words, ways in which we all tend to think badly. The concept was introduced by Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky. As with all biases, becoming aware of them is the first step toward avoiding them, although awareness certainly doesn’t guarantee avoidance.
