Contents

This episode of Radiolab explores a computer simulation of repeated instances of the prisoner’s dilemma and shares the dominant strategy:

  1. Start by cooperating.
  2. Mirror the other player’s choices “tit-for-tat”: cooperate if they cooperated last time, betray if they betrayed last time.
  3. Occasionally cooperate even if they betrayed you.

Translated into the realm of humans, where there are benefits to cooperation but not everyone is willing to:

  1. Assume good intent.
  2. Take no bullshit.
  3. Occasionally forgive.
