From “Making the case to decision-makers”, an essential aspect of making positive change in an organization where decision-making isn’t a full democracy:
- Start with the conclusion.
- What’s the problem you’re solving and why does it matter?
- What are we currently doing about this problem?
- What are our competitors or industry leaders doing?
- What’s your solution?
- What’s the cost?
- What’s the cost of inaction? This really helps put the cost above in context.
- What’s your high-level execution plan?
- What decision do you expect to be made in this room? Who’s responsible for what decisions? What is blocked on these decisions?
