Mgr 1: I think Squad 1 is struggling
Mgr 2: Really? I thought they were doing well, and that Squad 3 needed our attention more than anything!
In the Continuous Value Delivery form of the Product Operating Model all squads are truly measured by three things:
- Delivery of Customer Value (as measured by a constellation of customer metrics)
- Value Delivered that works for the business (as measured by Net Retention as well as the operations cost portion of the Profit and Loss sheet)
- Learning (as measured by every member believing they are personally and as a squad better today than they were yesterday)
However, these can be lagging. Also, when you aren’t getting the outcomes you wanted, what are some ways that you can observe the issues, diagnose the issues, and prescribe a solution to them?
My team at CareerPlug, starting in 2023, iterated on a few ways to do this. The latest iteration is embedded below. The short version is we shared a rating across a set of attributes, and discussed where we are experiencing a difference in opinion. Within this discussion lies the path to clarity, change, and continuous improvement.
