Nostalgia is the sentimental longing for the way you think things used to be. From ancient Greek, where it meant something like “longing to return home”.
Nostalgia is a trap
For two reasons: 1.) you can’t go back in time, and 2.) even if you could, it wouldn’t be as nice as you remember due to selective memory. There is no going back: The only way out is through.
But nostalgia can be useful! It can point to our unmet needs right here in the present. And while we can’t recreate the past, we can learn from it.
